If you go to Forrester Research’s YouTube channel, you will find a playlist called Forrester’s Forum For eBusiness & Channel Strategy Professionals 2014. In that playlist, you’ll find twelve videos that give you a high level understanding of how digital technologies are disrupting business in every industry. This series of short videos should be watched by anyone interested in jumpstarting their thinking about how to improve their business practices by embracing cutting edge technology and a culture of continual improvement.
One of the interesting lessons I learned from watching these videos is that everyone, from the hourly employee to the c-level executive, understands that their business technology is a little bit dated. But the transformation that happens from embracing digital disruption will not come from an intellectual understanding of the problem, nor will it come from a strategy imposed on an organization in a top-down manner. Rather, digital disruption will emerge from individuals inside an organization who are passionate about the tools and technology that bring about change, and who enthusiastically promote them at all levels of the organization in collaboration with those who actually execute the strategy.
As Martin Gill notes, the challenge in this endevour is that there is no single right answer. The process of transforming an organization is unending and requires continuous iteration, and no sooner have you embraced a new tool or technology than it becomes obsolete.
